Last night’s star-studded International Portuguese Music Awards featured performances by Aurea, Paulo Gonzo, Calema, Jorge Ferreira, Delfins, and the legendary rock band Xutos e Pontapés. Lúcia Moniz took the stage for a surprise duet with Paulo Gonzo and Ângelo Freire was a surprise addition to the grand opening of the show. Trophies were presented in thirteen categories, with this year’s nominees hailing from nine different countries.

Daniela Ruah and Ricardo Farias hosted the tenth annual celebration honoring musicians of Portuguese descent from around the globe at the iconic Providence Performing Arts Center in Rhode Island, which is the state with the highest percentage of Portuguese population in the United States.

New Talent

Giuliana Lucia Amaral

The new talent winner was also awarded a $2000 prize in addition to all expenses paid trip to Toronto, Canada for studio recording time with MDC Music.

With outstanding production and an all-star line-up, the audience also discovered incredible new artists who are making history in our Lusophone communities around the world. “ says, Manuel da Costa, IPMA new partners and President of MDC Media Group.


“I was so proud that we had a strong Canadian presence and honored to award this year’s New Talent trophy to Giuliana Amaral. She is a promising artist and look forward to working with her at the MDC Music studios if Toronto."

 

Several familiar faces joined the prestigious event to present the coveted awards including Portuguese-American comedy group The Portuguese Kids, Emmy Award-winning reporter John Dias, and world-renowned choreographer Manuela Oliveira.

 

IPMA will begin accepting submissions sometime this summer for next year’s award show.
