IPMA announce 2024 performers

 
 

PROVIDENCE, RI (USA) - The International Portuguese Music Awards (IPMA) has recognized music produced by artists of Portuguese descent from around the globe since 2013. The internationally televised event will be held in Providence, Rhode Island and co-hosted by Boston-born actress Daniela Ruah and Providence native Ricardo Farias.

 

Nearly 10% of the population in Rhode Island has ancestry from Portugal, and Portuguese is the third most spoken language in the state.

 

The organization held a launch party at the Providence Performing Arts Center (PPAC) to announce the details for the next awards show. Those in attendance were treated to an acoustic performance by Olavo Bilac. IPMA will feature a world-class performer lineup.

 

Bárbara Bandeira is one of Portugal’s most popular pop singers and had the country’s top-streamed Spotify song of 2023. Bandeira won the 2018 Golden Globes Portugal for New Star of the Year and the 2022 MTV Europe Music Award for Best Portuguese Act.

 

Joey Medeiros, a grandson of emigrants from the Azores, was born in California and is a three-time IPMA winner. He has conquered the hearts of fans in places like Toronto, Bermuda, and Portugal.

 

Anjos is a duo formed by brothers Nelson and Sérgio Rosado who are celebrating their 25th anniversary as artists. Their album Longe was a best-seller in Portugal.

 

Sara Correia has a powerful voice and a deep connection to traditional fado. Her album Do Coração was nominated for a Latin Grammy. She is currently a mentor for The Voice in Portugal.

 

Nuno Ribeiro: After several hits over recent years, he collaborated with superstars Calema and Mariza for the chart-topper “Maria Joana”, which was a finalist alongside songs by Harry Styles, Kylie Minogue and Niall Horan in the OGAE song contest in Australia.

 

GNR, a.k.a Grupo Novo Rock, is a legendary band from Porto that pioneered the Portuguese rock scene. They have played on some of the biggest stages including Rock in Rio. GNR was awarded the "Medal of Cultural Merit" by the President of Portugal in 2005.

 

The twelfth annual International Portuguese Music Awards is slated for Saturday, May 04, 2024 at the historic Providence Performing Arts Center. Award show tickets go on sale Monday, December 11 on ipmaawards.com and through the PPAC box office.

 

The prestigious event follows past editions of the show that have included participation from distinguished performers including world renowned guitarist Nuno Bettencourt and Daniela Mercury, who is one of the best-selling female artists of all time in Brazil.
